Douglas Cromwell

Douglas, along with his late wife, Esther Cromwell, co-founded what would later become known as The Haven Family Care Homes in 2005 when they opened The Haven on Saratoga. They expanded to three locations by 2008, and by 2014 had added three additional locations while shifting focus from adults with mental illness to private-pay assisted living.

They were the first location to install a fire sprinkler system in order to provide care to non-ambulatory clients, and the first to build a location from the ground up with the intent of being used as a family care home. After successfully operating several family care homes, they began franchising in 2015, with their first franchised location opening in November of that year. In 2017, The Haven Family Care Homes rebranded to Avendelle Assisted Living.

Esther passed away in May of 2025. Douglas continues to own and operate five locations in the Cary and Apex area of North Carolina.

Douglas has a background in the culinary arts, graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania Academy of Culinary Arts in 1995, as well as nursing, graduating at the top of his class from North Carolina Central University with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2008. He has two children and enjoys the outdoors, long-range rifle and pistol shooting, live music, live theater, and rowing. He is currently working to obtain his private pilot's license.

Douglas offers assistance with site selection and licensing. He has served as President of Majestic Residences since January 2026, having previously served as Co-Founder and Vice-President of Avendelle from 2005 to 2025 and as President of Avendelle from June 2025 to January 2026.
